Oggy (Mark Ogram) from Yahoo Boards (Dunsborough/Yallinyup), who made the Bloke's malabu long board, was out in the anchorage today inspecting his mooring on his stand up paddle board. Or should we be exact and say what was left of the mooring he used to keep his beautiful yacht Mahana on before he sold her. (She's now in Bunbury, he still owns the mooring in Quindalup). It appears that his mooring buoy and associated chain has gone. We think likely stolen as there were some shenanigans here in Quindalup some 12 months ago where mooring buoys turned up in new locations. The giveaway was that the buoys still had the "owners" boat name on them. Our memory map from our annual visits suggested that there had been a bit of "movement" from here to there and it was unlikely that the buoy had been sold or relocated by the actual owner. Oggy preferred the idea that through neglect, the mooring had deteriorated and the buoy and associated chain, shackles etc.. been washed away in storms. If you are a local it's probably the best idea to nurture.
So we had a good chat with Oggy about his sailing adventures and possibilities when he delivered this pearl of wisdom - although not in a prescriptive way.
"Plans should be written on the sand at low tide."
Thanks Oggy! The Bloke and I think we shall adopt that mantra as we go around. Plans are even less certain when you are on the water than on land; you can never predict what is going to happen next. I'm sure that the skipper of the boat we watched being rescued by Sea Rescue this morning would agree.
