Checking out the memorial a few days earlier

This statue of Duncan Chapman, a Maryborough man, remembers him as the very first of the ANZACs ashore at Gallipoli. The display is not yet complete since a representation of the Gallipoli cliffs is yet to be added. A very ambitious project.

Part of the landscaping with beautiful blooms despite the water restrictions

Only a couple of days earlier, a close inspection was possible of this unique memorial. At the base are 4 figures depicting the 3 armed services of Army, Navy and Airforce. The 4th figure that makes it unique, is of a Red Cross Nurse, acknowledging the important role of Nurses during wartime. On the top stands the Nike, Greek God of Victory.
