The water here in Portland is very clean and clear. Spring is definitely in the air and the dive once again found itself as an agenda item at the top of the Bloke's 'To Do' list. Noel's visit last Saturday, just as the Bloke was about to don his wetsuit, was a great excuse to once again postpone the inevitable but this just made the Bloke feel guilty that he'd piked out. So that 'To Do' list was lurking 'front of mind' all week. Questions were raised with locals. "Do you ever have sharks in the bay?" . "We notice seals here, do they attract anything bigger?". Rhetorical questions really.... the Bloke already knew the answer. Enough already. Time to face your demons!
Success!
The job didn't take long at all, despite an array of scrapers, pads and brushes having been laid out in preparation. The Prop was clean (good ol' prop speed) the rudder only had the lightest film of growth not worthy of action and no barnacles (even on the top edge), and the keel was all clear too. No need to actually look beneath the keel as we were pretty certain that we'd been crushing crabs with it in the remaining puddle of water at low tide in Christmas Cove. Whatever might have been there would just be a smudge now.
Getting cleaned up
The bloke was right to have been wary of seals. This one popped it's head up while we were stood chatting on the dock only a short while later. It announced it's arrival with a 'fooffff' sound right behind our heels.
Showing off
Aaaawww.... so cute!
It was probably was hoping for a fishy offering but it picked absolutely the wrong target; just like the seal, we get given fish too!
