Fish favours

The idea to 'teach a man to fish and you will feed him for life' is all well and good but we still have trainer wheels on when it comes to conventional fishing.

The Bloke really, really tried to catch some King George Whiting (KGW) while we were in American River but to no avail. 'No good in a northerly' declared one local. Mmmmm 7 days of northish winds, doh! 'You won't catch fish on a dodge tide' said another. Darn it, we had 2 consecutive days of those. A dodge tide is a South Australian term for neap tides with minimal variation across 24 hours. Essentially; no tidal height movement. We heard over the VHF that we weren't the only ones out of luck. All the Bloke caught was a cold. As a consolation prize we purchased 2 1/2 dozen freshly harvested oysters from the local Oyster Lease. Yum!

Later we were gifted 5 mud crabs that were surplus to the needs of the skipper on a neighbouring mooring.  The crabs were traded for a hangover courtesy of the scotch consumed during the exchange.

A lovingly restored timber crayboat.
The refit is full of WA Jarrah timber.

While I was messing about with laundry, the Bloke told me that he'd got lucky and showed me this trophy while filleting a 3rd KGW. He quickly owned up - they were a gift.

A young bloke was rewarded for his generosity with some cake.

 The best exchange yet!
Not water into wine but wine into fish. Yay!
