Never Turn Down an Invitation!

We don't just make calls on the VHF radio, sometimes people call us. Overhearing our conversation with the local Marine Rescue to log off at the completion of our trip into Jervis Bay, some locals overheard our query regarding anchoring regulations. They called up to suggest the mooring that they were using and would soon be vacating and also to let us know that if we wished to visit the other side of the bay that we could use their mooring there. What a fraternity yachties are!

We sat out the 3rd of the recent ECL's at The Hole in The Wall anchorage on a courtesy mooring and contacted locals, Peter and Janine from Shaballa, about their kind offer of a few days earlier. Callala Beach was going to be a better option for the next few days. On approach, we spotted not only the local boats that had been occupying some of the courtesy moorings across the bay but also someone out on a paddle board. It was Peter, ready to escort us to his mooring. Help does not get better than that, especially seeing as we were then taken back to his home for morning tea and then on to the shops for a quick top up of fruit and veg!

A gorgeous orange moonrise over Jervis Bay.

We enjoyed at least one day of sunshine.

A local giving his boat a 'little visit' and enjoying the tranquility with a beer.

Callala Beach is probably the smallest of the communities in Jervis Bay, if shops are a guide. Here we found a nice IGA about 1km from the water. Had we visited Vincentia or Huskisson we'd have the option of a Coles or a Foodworks/Woolies; both hallmarks of a larger centre. Importantly though The Bloke had access to a coffee, a newspaper and a Sausage Roll. While the coffee was great, the SR was not worthy of mention. NSW is not rating too well thus far.

We enjoyed the company of several of the local yachties and were given advice about and contact details for out next stop of Kiama where we will meet up with Sydney based friends - Martin and Carolyn. We sense a very social time is around the corner or should we say, up the coast.
