The Bloke here,
Finally Queensland has produced a sausage roll worth rating. It has taken a long time and a lot of sampling to eventually find a sausage roll made in Queensland that is worthy of a mention. I must say these banana benders leave it to the last opportunity, given we are planning to leave Australia on Tuesday. Well, it is better to be late than never. So the Hope Island Marina deli has come through.
This roll is pork and fennel, a killer combination. The taste and pastry is reminiscent of the famous rolls from Tasmania although this version is a little dryer. The dryness could have been due to the roll being cold and then heated in a microwave or they may have been a little old. I did wait until 8AM to sample this morsel, so they may have had a hour or two of just sitting around looking good before I arrived.
This roll comes in at number 5 on the table of fame and has saved Queensland from an embarrassing situation.
