Sightseeing in Esperance

The arrival of our friends Lee and David to Esperance was all the excuse we needed to do some sightseeing. Since the team who were resisdent at the Cat Haven already had access to the $40/day shopping bunky we traveled with the Bests. It actually made a sightseeing day possible for all.

After morning tea at Bandy Creek (the Cat Haven) and fortified with scones and a small quantity of "care pack" sausage rolls that the Bloke was prepared to share, we were all suitably fortified for our tour.

First stop the Esperance Stone Henge located in the front garden of an acreage property on the way to Cape Le Grand National Park. We pulled off the road and took fright at the entrance fee. $10 per adult. Cha Ching, that would be $80 for 2 vehicles less a small discount for 2 seniors on tour (who shall remain nameless). We decided that this attraction had exceeded its attractiveness with such a hefty tariff particularly as it was not a day of any particular solar/lunar significance. Onwards to the Cape Le grand National Park and the more moderate entry fee of $12 per vehicle.
Frenchmans Peak - Cape Le Grand. Unbelievably there were people walking up there and yes, there is a 'hole' under the peak.
The Bloke and David seem to agree ... but what about?

Lucky Bay has a huge reputation and there is no doubt that it is spectacular but strangely, I liked Bremer Bay better. Now here's a thing about Lucky Bay. It has an ice cream kiosk. It's on the the beach itself and it is powered by a generator. On the day of our visit it was once again blowing dogs off chains so the 'serenity' of what should have been an unspoilt location was not greatly disrupted acoustically by the generator, but it did mean that there were vehicles parked on the beach and small tour buses driving up to the kiosk to deliver elderly clients (and not making giant efforts to avoid pedestrians on the beach). Very tacky. I'd prefer this was all kept in the car park and would find the removal of a few small shrubs, to enable a better view over the bay, a better prospect. Just my thoughts.
Walking down to Lucky Bay. Look how blue the water is!

The Ocean Road on the west side of Esperance provided more spectacular beach and ocean vistas for which Esperance is famed. The outdoorsy enthusiasts are fearless too and give a great show of their kite boarding skills.

    1. Hi George, The clock still chimes for you and Eva put here foot in it telling Fay McKenzie that she was not too shook on the tower. A bit of a problem given they donated the larges bell. Well we will be seeing you in late May as we are going to visit the kids before returning to Port Linchon

  3. Great read!!

Sadly much of Aust is being ''locked up'' and fees payable for everyday tourists wanting to discover their own country. I like the Scottish approach. Locals are free, outsiders [of Aust] pay.
