Fleet fishing

Standings in the Fleet Fishing contest are varied.

The Bloke wins the honour of first fish caught. The leg from Quindalup to Albany delivering this accolade with his Tuna/ Mackerel caught on passage.

The bloke again did remarkably well in the shallow water fishing division with 7 KG Whiting at Dillon Bay... A feat yet to be repeated by anyone despite vigorous, enthusiastic and frequent feeding of Australian fish stocks by our fleet between Bremer Bay and The Duke. Honestly, so much bait....for zero return, lol!

Leanne takes out the gong for most kilos caught with an outstanding effort between Esperance and The Duke - a catch of 3 tuna during a squall which were later transformed into a delicious Fish Byriani. Not to be outdone Maree is a runner up with her single Tuna caught on the same passage.

The fleet does have other fishing competences however. While Easy Tiger and Urchin were snuggled in at the Cat Haven (AKA Bandee Creek Fishing Boat Harbour) both Leanne and Maree were extremely proficient at negotiating heavily discounted freshly caught harvests of the sea. Much of it was filleted and vac sealed already. Let's call them Fish Charmers. Beautiful work girls. Straight into the Engles without fuss.

The most stupendously successful Fleet Fishing skills were demonstrated on anchor at The Duke of Orleans Bay. Maree and Leanne recognised a trawler that was pulling up to a mooring in the bay. It had been at Bandee Creek the week before and they came to know the Skipper. As it happened we were hosting afternoon tea on Zofia which was anchored nearest the trawler's mooring (which we'd ALL lusted after when we'd arrived the day before - 12 days in harbour had rusted up our anchoring skills). We all waived to the skipper and crew to be friendly and exchanged some banter along the lines that we hadn't got far since Esperance. Ha Ha etc... Imagine our shock when they drew up along side and gave us these........

Trophies YUM YUM

Most cray-fishermen would sooner give up their first born that part with any of their catch! And who can blame them; such a tough and arduous occupation. Unbelievable generosity, matched by immeasurable gratitude!

In case you're wondering, we cooked and ate the legs etc too.

The Bloke was required to be the assassin. He did well.

So the bar has been raised once more. What else can our Fleet Fishing Olympics deliver. Stand by.
