$40m well spent at Fitzgerald River National Park

B4 pointing something out. Keith Dunlop our guide for the day, looks on
Keith Dunlop, pictured above was our tour guide and is a very proud and active local. A Hopey as the locals are known. He is a member of the local VMR which is how we came into contact with him; he is on the local Volunteer Fire Brigade and most importantly he is the Deputy Shire President.  He's very proud of his district and keen to show us how the State Government spent a few dollars.

We are indebted to his generosity and to his wife Anne for giving him to us for half a day.

The Fitzgerald River National Park must be one of the largest National Parks in the state and it extends from Bremer Bay through to Hopetoun. A very rugged stretch of terrain that includes rugged headlands, mountains and inlets. It boasts a newly macadamised road network on the Hopetoun side with camping areas, barbecues, tourist trails and lots of signage explaining the location historically and from a wildlife and flora perspective. There are environmentally friendly loos and landscaping around carparks that even have bays for caravans. It's all first rate! The environment is pristine and I'm thrilled to think that this is being preserved for future generations.

Looking inland over Culham Inlet

East Mount Barren peak is 299m above sea level and affords a great view even part the way up

Looking UP. I thought limestone but its more quartzish
