A single pen was available for our use at EBYC. Brian Kerr had just bought a boat (a 45' X-Yacht) in the east and trucked it west with his wife Jill. That's what you'd call a shopping trip, don't you think? It needed some modifications which would be made in Albany hence their pen was vacant. Coincidentally they got to meet Lou and Rob from Zeeha'en at the Albany hard stand whom we met in November in Koombana Bay, Bunbury. I sense that we'll see some boats on a number of occasions as we do our lap.
Anyone who doubts the '9 degrees of separation' needs to know that our pen owner Brian is related to a wartime friend of the Bloke's Mum. June Harrison (nee Kerr) worked at the ES and A bank in Norsman at the same time as Mum worked at the Kalgoorlie branch of the same bank. They knew one another as a result. At the outbreak of war they both signed up with the WAAAF and went across the Nullabor on a troop train to do their basic training. They came across one another after the war from time to time through the South Perth district and competitive tennis. Jean was a champion sportswoman. She could run, swim, play hockey, tennis, golf. Anything you like. A natural as they say! We had met her through our golf club and reunited the ladies.
So here we are in the Great Southern using a boat pen that belongs to the 2nd cousin of the Bloke's Mum's long time friend. What a story!
