Ppssssstt. Can you keep a secret?

No matter who one speaks to here in Bremer Bay, they all say the same.... "Don't tell anyone!  It's our secret"

It's 2 1/2 hours from Albany and probably 6 hours drive from Perth. With those sorts of stats, Bremer Bay has probably managed to stay off the radar for Perth people. It's a 50km detour too if your traveling between Albany and Esperance so you are really not going to arrive here by accident.  It is a Mecca for farming folk in the Great Southern district though, and we've been told that families and whole communities up stumps and spend their summer and Easter breaks here. Easter is the best of the two times apparently.
This helps to explain why we have seen so many 4wheel drives and big boys toys on every bit of white beach for the last 50-60nm. Farmers love their toys!!!
If the farmers can have their toys, we can have ours. Big Ted on radio duty.
The Bremer Bay Caravan park accommodates some 1,100 - 1,300 people who influx at this time of year but you'd hardly know so many people were here and around. The reason is the number of bays and beaches on offer. If the beach isn't attractive for any reason there is always another more protected one, or a large freshwater lake where you can waterski. Not much waterskiing occurs far off the shore in the Bay - probably a homage to the knowledge of the great white sharks that live off the seals, sea lions and whales that come into the bay. Can it be true or is this just to scare people away? I'm voting for erring on the side of caution thanks.
To illustrate how keen the locals are to discourage outsiders, one only needs to attempt buying a postcard. On offer are jokey cartoons that happen to have "Greetings from Bremer Bay" on them. You'll probably find the same ones with the words Bremer Bay substituted with 'Bondi', 'Byron Bay' or 'Tangalooma' on card stands around the country. There are also the whale tail and pelican post cards but again they could be from anywhere. The only card with a photo that is even remotely unique is an awfully bad and unattractive snap of Fisheries Beach that certainly does not scream 'wouldn't you like to holiday here and aren't your friends so very, very lucky to get here'.
The reality is that Bremer Bay is absolutely gorgeous! The water is almost iridescent turquoise and crystal clear. The blue even reflects onto the underside of the sea gulls wings so that they look blue too. It's just outstanding! (Will try and get a photo). The sand is white and squeaky. The fishing is great too (We just haven't got our fishing fingers primed yet).
Glad we didn't miss this little hide away.
Winds are shifting easterly tomorrow and will be strong, so the blue dot will move off to Peppermint Beach on the other side of the Bay both to duck for cover AND experience more of its outstanding beauty!
