Say "Cheese!"

From our samplings which were not comprehensive by any means, we found several foods on King Island to be top notch! To tell you that the milk here is delicious might not be surprising but it has been such a treat after months of UHT milk and years of WA milk which is quite watery by comparison. On King Island, milk is very rich and has a creamish colour. The cartons of the 'full cream milk' could be seen in the shop fridge with the cream floating on top just like the old days (I'm admitting to a memory of 40 years ago when it was last available like that). By the time we'd walked it back from the shop to the boat however we'd homogenised it but this did not detract from it's taste.

A common food purchase for us is a cooked chook (chicken). They are handy for salad lunches, for inclusion into a risotto and sandwiches etc... When asked if we'd like a 'large' or 'small' at the Currie Foodworks supermarket we greedily asked for a 'large' hoping it would be at least the size of a pullet. They seem to be getting smaller and smaller these days. I'm convinced I'll be sold a spatchcock one day. When handed the wrapped chicken we immediately knew it was 'large' on the old meter. When we got it back to the boat to take it apart and store it in a plastic container, it was clear that this was a plump and succulent 'pterodactyl' sized chook and it was 'finger lickin' good'. Surely, local produce?

Delighted to get here... it's time to say "Cheese please".

We've sampled the beef. Verdict - very tender. We bought the local garlic which seems good too. What we really came out for though, was the cheese and the King Island Dairy didn't disappoint. The whole getting to Loorana where it's situated was a triumph and the visit to the Fromagerie a highlight. When we arrived we were greeted and invited to view a 15 minute DVD before entering the tasting room. We were on our own during the tasting, allowing us to focus squarely on the task at hand - Divine

This was a chapel of cheese. Dimly lit and temperature controlled.
The Bloke ponders the options and tasting notes.

Some of the cheeses are named after a bay or geographical feature on King Island.
This was the Roaring Forties Blue.

We were delighted with our tastings and selections.
Prices were about 60% of the regular shop price too.

Here is what we took back to the boat.
Are we kicking ourselves for not buying more? Yes, yes, yes!
