At last we get to leave. No longer being hammered by 30kn easterlies and with no prospect of any more easterlies until this afternoon we can slip off to Middle Island for a quick look for a day or two and then probable commencement of THE BIG ONE on Friday.
Everyone is in good spirits. If you were to look closely at our retinas I reckon you'd see a trace of synoptic charts. We've been staring at them for days! The Bloke is ready. All scenarios have been examined and printed etc....He's now inspecting all his devices... Engine bay, etc.... The Yanmar is ticking away nicely as we motor out past Nares Island which has sheltered us over this last week. We were fortunate to have found a blue spot and didn't have the miseries that the cats did. Once they found their own blue spot, all was well. Note to self: find sand if you can!
Internet has been good and phone reception mostly good. We were able to get fuel, water, bread, milk and FLY SPRAY at the caravan park - they have a well stocked grocery with essentials and freezers with meat and frozen veg - for emergencies. They accepted our rubbish. The Duke also has laundry facilities - $4 per wash and lines for drying although there is a dryer. We also refilled a gas bottle there (on the 'take it while its going' principle). The Duke caravan park sits behind a small headland, so to assist their guests they have a wind sock on the top of a hill. This is brilliant when moored in behind Nares Island as you are never really certain what the wind is doing beyond the Island/Headland effect and your guestimate looking at the white caps in the bay.

So, we have 2POB on board, 180l fuel in the tanks plus a further 80l in the Gerries. We have about 450l of water and cooking gas that will last us for 2 months! All being well we should be at the northern anchorage of Middle Island by noon today - SWEET!
