Oyster Delights in Bermagui

Scouting around the Fisherman's Co-op building just after our arrival at Bermagui, we were delighted to find a small Growers Market being set up. Not expecting to be shopping so soon, I scuttled back to the boat for my purse. Local oysters as well as sourdough bread baked in a wood oven were my trophies. Things were looking up!

The oyster shucking set purchased in Streaky Bay, SA gets another workout.

A reconnaissance of the town the next day revealed that the Oyster Bar would have a Happy Hour on Saturday evening from 4-6pm where we could partake of more of those yummy, creamy oysters at $1 each plus $5 per glass of house wine or beer. We were signing up for that one and the crew of Bad Cat were pretty excited too.

Even the Tasmanian crew of Bad Cat agreed that these Oysters were super.

We hadn't known it but we'd left the Sapphire Coast and had entered the Oyster Coast. Clearly we have much to look forward to. For now, we were going to enjoy the Wapengo Lake, Sydney Rock Oysters which are markedly different from Coffin Bay Pacific Oysters. No problemo.

Our host, Mr Buckley the Oysterman.
He suggests teaming the oysters with Scotch Whiskey or Gin which is available by the nip.
A quite novel hospitality format.
